I benefici immediati della meditazione
Secondo un nuovo studio, meditare può aiutarci a rimetterci in sesto anche con una sola seduta
A quanto rilevato da un nuovo (piccolo) studio, una singola sessione di meditazione può abbassare i livelli di ansia. L’autore dello studio, John Durocher, che si occupa di Fisiologia presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Biologiche della Michigan Technological University ha spiegato che i risultati hanno mostrato una chiara riduzione dell’ansia nella prima ora successiva alla sessione di meditazione e non solo: l’ansia era significativamente più bassa anche una settimana dopo la sessione – la maggior parte dei partecipanti ha continuato a praticare la meditazione anche dopo.
L’ansia è un aggravante molto seria per parecchie condizioni, per esempio può aumentare il rischio di malattie cardiache – studi precedenti hanno dimostrato che la rigidità arteriosa può essere aggravata da eventi traumatici della vita, tensione da lavoro, depressione e ansia a breve termine o cronica – inoltre, i cambiamenti cardiaci legati all’ansia possono portare a ipertensione e danni agli organi.
Per lo studio, Durocher e i suoi colleghi hanno reclutato 14 partecipanti con pressione sanguigna normale ma alti livelli di ansia. Hanno quindi valutato la frequenza cardiaca, la pressione arteriosa e la rigidità arteriosa dei volontari prima e dopo una sessione di meditazione guidata consapevole per principianti, durata 60 minuti – un tipo di meditazione che si concentra sulla respirazione e sulla consapevolezza dei propri pensieri. Hanno rilevato che i partecipanti hanno ridotto sia l’ansia che lo stress meccanico sulle loro arterie, un risultato che potrebbe aiutare a ridurre lo stress su organi come il cervello e i reni e aiutare a prevenire condizioni come l’ipertensione.
Questo studio, diverso dagli altri, visto che si è occupato di esaminare l’effetto di una singola sessione di meditazione, è uno studio preliminare, presentato al meeting annuale della American Physiological Society, a San Diego e non ancora pubblicato su una rivista.
Quello che dice, dovrebbe farci davvero riflettere sul nostro rapporto con le ansie quotidiane e su quanto sia importante imparare a prenderci del tempo per noi stessi, respirando, concentrandoci e meditando fino a eliminare tutto quello che dall’esterno ci fa del male.
