Fiumi alpini malati: solo 1 su 10 è abbastanza in salute da fornire acqua e riuscire a far fronte ai cambiamenti climatici, pochissimi sono quelli incontaminati. Secondo un rapporto del Wwf  ‘”Save the Alpine Rivers!’, infati, solo 340 km tra i grandi fiumidelle Alpi mantengono uno stato ecologico elevato, mentre 2.300 km sono stati classificati come artificiali o profondamente modificati dall’uomo.

Il rapporto, che è il primo studio globale dedicato ai sistemi fluviali dell’intero arco alpino, condotto con l’Università per le Risorse Naturali e le Scienze della Vita di Vienna, denucnia una grave situazione ambientale. ‘Solo l’11% dei fiumi alpini è ancora ecologicamente intatto. Si tratta per lo più di piccoli corsi d’acqua, per la maggior parte minacciati dallo sviluppo di piccoli impianti idroelettrici’, sostiene Christoph Litschauer, a capo de l Programma Acque del Wwf European Alpine Programme.

 

‘Quello che serve è costruire un dibattito qualificato, a livello panalpino, che chiarisca quali habitat vogliamo preservare in futuro. Questo significa che dobbiamo stabilire quali fiumi proteggere prima che gli effetti cumulativi dello sfruttamento idroelettrico e dei cambiamenti climatici creino impatti tali da essere disastrosi’.
