Un designer trasforma la cellulosa in paillettes senza plastica per migliorare la sostenibilità anche nelle parti più piccole create dalla moda
Nel tentativo di rendere l’industria della moda (sempre) più sostenibile, la designer Elissa Brunato ha sviluppato la Bio Iridescent Sequin, un progetto di ricerca e design dei materiali che trasforma la cellulosa in scintillanti paillettes biodegradabili di varie forme e dimensioni. Create in collaborazione con gli scienziati dei materiali Hjalmar Granberg e Tiffany Abitbol del RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, queste paillettes ecocompatibili offrono un’alternativa compostabile alle paillettes convenzionali, che sono tipicamente realizzate in plastica di petrolio o resine sintetiche.
Questo nuovo bio-materiale, che viene proposto come una delle soluzioni possibili per un’economia tessile circolare, è creato in laboratorio utilizzando biotecnologie che hanno prodotto una vasta gamma di campioni di diversi colori e dimensioni. Tutte le diverse paillettes sono state realizzate a partire dalla cellulosa, una risorsa naturalmente abbondante che viene comunemente ottenuta dalla pasta di legno e dal cotone. Come la plastica, la cellulosa può essere manipolata per creare un materiale leggero e resistente, ideale per realizzare paillettes e con l’ulteriore vantaggio di essere compostabile.
Le paillettes ecologiche sono state create ridisegnando le forme sulla base della struttura cristallina della cellulosa, di cui sono state sfruttate anche le naturali proprietà di rifrazione della luce; questo ha permesso di ottenere colori luccicanti e iridescenti senza l’utilizzo di sostanze chimiche.
Un nuovo approccio molto interessante per rendere rinnovabili anche le più piccole componenti dei tessuti che, forse, proprio per questo sono le più pericolose.
